International athlete Sally Gunnell OBE (www.sallygunnell.com) stepped up to support her local Air Ambulance service in Brighton last week.

Sally, who retired from athletics in 1997 is still the only woman in history to hold all four major track titles concurrently – Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth and a 400 metres hurdles world record, lives in the Brighton area with her husband and three sons. She filmed a piece in a DVD for the Sussex Air Ambulance. The filming which took place in the opulent surroundings of the music room at the Royal Pavilion was for a DVD promoting an International Aero Medical Congress being hosted by the charity in Brighton in 2011.

Sally said ‘I am very pleased to have been able to support the Sussex Air Ambulance. They do a fantastic job, and as a local resident, I am reassured to know that such a service exists in the county.’

Sussex Air Ambulance responds to serious and life threatening 999 calls, 365 days a year. The helicopter’s specialist doctor and paramedic crew have attended hundreds of       medical emergencies since the service began in 2007. It costs £1.7 million a year to fund the Air Ambulance and this is raised almost entirely by voluntary donations.

Director of Communications at the Air Ambulance, Jill Playle said ‘We are really grateful to Sally for giving us her time and supporting the charity. Not only is she a well known celebrity but also lives in Sussex and can see the benefits of the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service.

Since Sally retired from international athletics, she has launched a career as a television presenter and motivational speaker.

Airmed attracts a world wide audience from over 50 countries. It will be the first time that it has ever been staged in the UK. Further details can be found at www.airmed2011.com
