A Ringmer woman has left a lasting legacy after a £1,000 donation was used to buy a vital piece of kit for the Sussex Air Ambulance.

The money was used to buy a Capnograph for the twin-engine MD902 helicopter in memory of Dorothy Hall who died last November.

A Capnograph, or Capnometer, is used to measure carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in an anaesthetised patient.

Dororthy’s daughter Jan, also from Ringmer, chose the life-saving charity as a beneficiary of her late mother’s will following a talk about the vital work it does.

She said: “It made me aware of how important the air ambulance is. I’m sure my mother would have been thrilled to bits as she had big respect for health services.”

Jan and her daughter Sue, a district nurse, visited the helicopter base at Dunsfold to meet the crew and was given a guided tour of the aircraft by Clinical Manager Gary Wareham.

East Sussex County Fundraiser Bridget Pepper gratefully welcomed the donation on behalf of the Air Ambulance which needs £1.7m-a-year to keep flying.

She said: “It is really heart-warming when we receive donations in memory of loved ones.

“It was lovely to hear that Mrs Armstong chose us after attending one of our talks as our story is a powerful one.

“This is a perfect example of how important it is for us to make the people of Sussex aware that we are a charity and of the fantastic work our crew do on a daily basis.”
