The Sussex Air
Ambulance has been given nearly £12,000 through fundraising efforts by locals
in Crawley and will help the life-saving
charity carry out the equivalent of nearly eight missions in its helicopter.
Ifield Golf and
Country Club raised £5889.00 (five thousand eight hundred and eighty nine
pounds) during the past 12 months as the Air Ambulance was both the club’s Captain
– Allen Johnson and Ladies Captain - Gilly Fuller’s chosen charity of the year.
Throughout the past year the club has held coffee mornings, a summer swim and barbecue
plus their own annual charity golf day.
£2000.00 (two
thousand pounds) has been given to the charity by the Crawley
and Horsham Foot Followers for their fundraising ‘Clay Pigeon Shoot’. The group
came over to the Dunsfold base to present the cheque, during the visit they met
the HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Service) crew and got to look around the
life-saving helicopter.
The students and
teachers at OrielHigh School in
Maidenbower raised £3308 through organising their own sponsored 10k walk. Over
one thousand pupils and teachers took part in the event and now that all the
sponsorship money has been collected – the total is enough to save two lives
alone.
West Sussex Fundraiser
for Sussex Air Ambulance,
Delaine Shearman, said: “This
is a true reflection on how the people of Crawley
and Horsham have taken the charity to their hearts. We’ve been operating for
two and a half years now and I can see the difference the air ambulance has
made to the residents who live in the area, but more importantly how passionate
the local people are about the work the charity does. Every mission we fly
costs around £1500 and without wanting to put a price on a life, this will
effectively help save another eight – it’s fantastic.”
